What are Carbohydrates (sugars)?
Carbohydrates, sugars, s.f. Natural organic substances containing carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, representing a fundamental constituent of living matter and having an important role in metabolism, carbohydrate, carbohydrate.
Carbohydrates are chains of small amounts of sugar and is the body's main energy source. Excess glucose is stored as glycogen in the liver and in smaller amounts in muscle
- Simple carbohydrates are small molecules. Due to the small size can be metabolized quickly and are the ones who provide the fastest source of energy. They are found in sugar. Avoid consuming sugar and white flour or refined foods.
- Complex carbohydrates are large molecules and for this reason take longer to process them when our metabolism. They are found in vegetables and whole grains. Complex carbohydrates are also a source of fiber in the body.
Fiber is a form of carbohydrate that the body can not digest and as such, a good factor can help in weight loss.
